Police detective character concept

A character i have been working on for the past 2 weeks.
The world this character is in is in a more technological advance world but not very far from the modern world we live in now. There are aliens that co-exists with the humans and help them in their daily lives. Not everyone has an alien assistant.

The character is part of the detective department of the police force that takes on larger and more dangerous tasks such as weapons smuggling, drug deals, etc. He has a space alien octopus assistant. It can manipulate space/open portals to move around but the open portal size is only as big as itself. It can also open portals to use its tentacles do actions, attack, carry objects, etc. He can summon up to 2 tentacles, anything more will use up too much energy for it. His true form is bigger than his current one. The reason why he chose to have a small body is to make moving place to place easier.
